Gamescom 2019
Introduction Gamescom 2019 was again a very special experience. Each year I’m thinking, I will be there way to long but every time, Gamescom feels way to short. I met with many folks like every year and also with a few new ones that I haven’t met before. Meeting others is for me one of the main part of Gamescom as you don’t get many opportunities to meet the people you only know from the internet in person. Gamescom again broke all records although it felt emptier than before. The additional hall 11 did probably play a big part in…

Gamescom 2018
Introduction Gamescom 2018 is already a thing of the past. Just like the past few years, there was nothing Sims to be seen and I traveled on my own to Cologne to be part of it. This year there were a few of AHQ Heroes present and I also got to see some old friend from the German Community. Even more visitors than the past years found their way to Cologne. The queues were long and some had to be temporarily closed off for new players. Like every year there were also quite a few awards to be given away.…

Gamescom 2017
Summary As in previous years, Gamescom took place in Cologne with almost 355’000 visitors. Young and old, male and female, exhibitors, trade visitors, private visitors and press. All poured through the halls and aisles and a lot of them stood in line for up to 6 hours to play their favorite game before it’s released. There were several awards given to games as every year. My favorite areas this year were the enlarged Family & Friends corner as well as the Indie Booth and the retro gaming booth that were both larger then before and had just as many visitors. It…

Gamescom 2014 Preview: Crinrict plays
Introduction I was invited by EA Germany to attend Gamescom like the two years before. I like to say thank you for the opportunity again. I had a lot of fun and it’s always great to meet the other community members to talk and catch up. Next to the convention itself, I also had access to the EA Community Lounge and had the opportunity to play Sims 4 myself. Everyone had a slot to play the game for two hours. Since it wasn’t forbidden to watch over each others shoulders or to use an empty computer if that wasn’t taken,…

Gamescom 2014 Preview: A look at the GUI
The GUI in Live mode is divided in several sections. Upper Left The upper left corner is mostly unoccupied. You will only see a menu if you hold a party or go on a date. The menu shows a main goal and some tasks which you can try to achieve optionally. For each fulfilled task you’ll get points and after time runs out you get a medal. If you achieved gold you also get an object. Lower Left Here you can see the emotion your Sim currently has. It is indicated by the Sims picture, the color and a text.…

Sims 4 – Animations and Multitasking
Marion Gothier (SimGuruMarion) showed us the last Master Class at SimsCamp: Animations and Multitasking. As everything else, the stuff shown is still in an early state and many things can change. Everything that was shown to us does work in the game at the moment although Marion only showed pre-recorded videos from within the game. Sims 4 Sims should be less robotic and a lot more human. That lead to the identification of four major aspects in animations: More natural animations, better routing, better social interactions in groups and multitasking. Natural Animation As you can see in the gameplay trailer,…

Sims 4 – Buy & Build Mode
The third Sims 4 presentation was about Buy & Build Mode. Aaron Houts (SimGuruHouts) showed us the new features and how fast you can now build a house. Build Mode Build mode is now very modular. The player can build a fancy house with a few clicks. Rooms can be made bigger and smaller by pulling and pushing. Already placed furniture that doesn’t fit anymore is simply placed in your inventory. Walls that touch to form a closed area are recognized as room by the game. Those rooms can then be rotated and moved. This way you can completely change your…

Sims 4 – Emotions
One of the biggest new features that will come with Sims 4 are emotions. Sims are no longer keeping their feelings to themselves, they show you if they are happy, sad or angry. This shows in their faces as well as in the way they walk. Grant Rodiek (SimGuruGrant) introduced us to the topic. You can get a first impression yourself by watching the second part on the official Sims 4 Gameplay Video which shows part of what we got to see too. A warning up front The system is new and there are many things that will still change…

Crinrict visits the future – Into the future preview
At SimsCamp and the German community event at Gamescom we had ample time to test the upcoming expansion pack Into the Future. We did have to share computers but it was interesting to look over the shoulder of other players and watch what they were doing. Functionality The new expansions comes with many new, futuristic objects and is a mix of World Adventures and a conventional expansion pack. Traveling to and from the future is probably based on the same (buggy) system as World Adventures and University Life. Contrary to both the older expansions, your sims can stay in the future…
