Windows 10 Defender – Controlled Folder Access
Introduction Windows 10 Defender comes with a security feature called controlled folder access. This feature is to protect folders from unauthorized changes by malware and other unfriendly applications. On activation of the feature, it’s mainly the user folders that get protected which often leads to unwanted locking of the folder which in turn keeps applications from running properly. You can add exceptions to the controlled folder access similar to the firewall or anti virus protection. How can I change the settings ? Clean re-install of graphics drivers with Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU)
It can happen that graphics drivers get so badly corrupted, that the installation routine of the software isn’t able to repair them. In that case it’s a good idea to do a clean re-install of the drivers. Gamescom Preview – Anno 1800
The new Anno which takes place in the 19th century comes with a lot of new things. You can now have a Zoo and a museum which you can design yourself. Both can be build in a modular way and there’s also a blueprint mode in which you can build the whole thing without costs. Gamescom 2018
Introduction Gamescom 2018 is already a thing of the past. Just like the past few years, there was nothing Sims to be seen and I traveled on my own to Cologne to be part of it. This year there were a few of AHQ Heroes present and I also got to see some old friend from the German Community. Even more visitors than the past years found their way to Cologne. [UNRAVEL] Unravel 1 and 2 in 21:9 with no black bars
Introduction Unravel 2 does support a 21:9 resolution but there are black bars on either side nonetheless. To get rid of these bars, you need to edit the exe-file manually with a HEX-Editor. IMPORTANT: Create a backup of the exe files before following the instructions below. Preparation Before you can start, you need to find the hexadecimal value of the resolution you would like to use. Some common 21:9 values are 2560×1080 (hexadecimal value = 26B41740) 3440×1440 (hexadecimal value = 8EE31840) If you need the hexadecimal value of a different resolution, you can use a small tool called ResHex. As part of a group of AHQ/EA Forums volunteers, I was invited by EA to go to EA Play this year. We got to enjoy three wonderful days in LA. EA Play started with the press conference on Saturday morning. A lot of the game could be played in the outside area at EA Play afterwards and there were also goodies for those who stood in line and played: Dog Tags for Battlefield V, game codes and caps for the sports games and big posters for some of the games. [SIMS 2] Ultimate Collection Update removes SecuRom
Today the Sims 2 Ultimate Collection got a small update that brings the game more inline with Origin. Downloading and testing reveals, that this means SecuRom has finally been removed from the Ultimate Collection which gives it much better compatibility with Windows 10 as SecuRom and Win 10 don’t like each other very much. The update probably won’t remove SecuRom from your computer if you already have it. To remove SecuROM from your computer, you can use the SecuRom Removal Tool. Gamescom 2017
Summary As in previous years, Gamescom took place in Cologne with almost 355’000 visitors. Young and old, male and female, exhibitors, trade visitors, private visitors and press. All poured through the halls and aisles and a lot of them stood in line for up to 6 hours to play their favorite game before it’s released. There were several awards given to games as every year. My favorite areas this year were the enlarged Family & Friends corner as well as the Indie Booth and the retro gaming booth that were both larger then before and had just as many visitors. It…

City Living Event in Cologne
Introduction As for other expansions before I followed an invitation from EA Germany to the City Living event in Cologne and was able to get an impression of what we can expect with the new expansion pack. The event was taking place at the Unitymedia Medialofts. We were well taken care of and could enjoy some international food at the lunch buffet. We were able to play the game for about 6 hours after an approx. 20 min presentation by SimGuruGrant.
